Disease and Obesity
The rates of obesity have increased over the past decade. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in 2015 the incidence of obesity in the USA was approximately 6% higher at 39.6%. Over 70% of adults are considered overweight or obese. Furthermore, an alarming number of people are unaware of their weight status.
Most of us know that obesity increases the risk of cardiovascular disease and diabetes. However, studies also show that compared to individuals who have a normal weight, those who are obese have an increased risk for other serious diseases:
